Altar Guild

What is an altar guild? An altar guild is a parish group organized for the purpose of preparing all things related to worship at Masses, weddings, funerals and sacraments (i.e.: altar cloths, candles, vestments etc.)
Altar guild work is a gift to God.  Altar Guild members prepare a place for the coming of Our Lord in the celebration of Holy Eucharist and other sacraments. The preparation is done in a manner so that any service may be conducted in decency, order and beauty for the worship of Almighty God and His Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord.  It is your unique ministry to His church; your gift of your time and talents to His altar.
Members of the Altar Guild perform one of the most important functions of the church.  Without their efforts, the Masses on Sunday and during the week could not take place, at least not as the people are accustomed to seeing them.  Please join us.

*You would like to serve in a very quiet yet important way.

* You don't mind performing a function that is rarely noticed except when it is not done!

*You only have a few hours eachmonth available to serve.

*You want to be involved, but don't feel comfortable "up front".

*You like to set the stage for important events.

*You would enjoy the opportunity to learn more about the elements and symbolism of our liturgy.

On the job training available!!

Altar Servers

The Ministry of Altar Servers is one of the most rewarding ministries for the children. They learn at an early age what it means to serve God and the Church. They assist the priest and other ministers at the Mass. The Altar Servers may also be asked to help at other liturgical celebrations (weddings, funerals). Boys and girls in grade 5 and up and who have received their First Communion are invited to participate in this ministry. The candidate is offered training during the year by appointment through the church office.  Once the training is completed, they will be asked to serve at weekend Masses.  Anyone wishing to be part of this ministry may contact the parish office and sign up for the next class.

Bereavement

Bereavement ministry requires no special talents. Any caring person can find a place here. Bringing comfort to those who mourn is a most rewarding experience. The entire St. Joseph community is called to serve and to share their God-given gifts with others.Training will be provided for those who feel called to extend the love of Christ to the bereaved. The initial visit is made to extend the condolence of the parish, and to assess the needs of the family.Services offered through this ministry are: planning funeral liturgy; attending the Wake and/or the funeral services; helping with a luncheon after the Mass; making telephone calls; transportation to pick-up relatives at the airport; and occasionally accompanying the family to the funeral home to make the arrangements, etc.

Environment

The Ministry of Art and Environment is involved with the decoration of the Church, inside and outside, as celebration and season demand.  The ministry's work primarily takes place during the times of seasonal change (i.e. Advent, Lent, Triduum, Easter) when the Church is transformed to reflect the mood of the season.  All are invited to help in this important ministry.  There is no necessary training, nor any set times.  Simply show up in work clothes when you hear the announcement at Mass

Midday Meditations
Local musicians, both professional and amateur, come to the church and play a recital of slow, meditative classical music at 11:30am, every other Friday, from October through April. The concerts will last from 20 to 25 minutes and will be followed at 12:10pm by our regular daily mass, for those wishing to stay.
The serene, slow music will allow listeners the chance to meditate, pray, chill-out or just listen and enjoy. These concerts will give performers a low-stress venue for playing some beautiful, classical music. Admission is free, so come when you can, as often as you would like.
Take a break from the hustle and stress of the work week.

The Music Ministry at St.Joseph's is growing! Come and be a part of the excitement.
